Solid Waste Management:

Since its establishment in 1991, SPCC has been actively engaged in solid waste management in the Everest Region.  Our working area begins from the main trekking route of Lukla and ends at various Himalayan base camps including Everest Base Camp. Our waste management activities can be broadly categorized into Mountain/Peak garbage management, Trekking trail and Village-level garbage management.

In the base camps of mountains and peaks, SPCC monitors garbage through ‘garbage declaration and clearance system in direct coordination with MoCTCA and NMA. Along the trekking trails, SPCC has built more than 75 garbage bins having segregation chambers for storing burnable and non-burnable garbage. At the village-level, SPCC has mobilized community based organizations such as women’s group, youth group, and garbage management groups and extended partnership with more than 20 CBOs for proper management of garbage in various settlements. In major tourists settlements, SPCC has been providing door-to-door garbage collection service.
