Khumbu Icefall Route Construction

SPCC is given a periodical contract by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) to make and maintain the Khumbu Icefall route. This route between Everest Base Camp and Camp 2, which passes over deep and dangerous crevasses, is considered to be the most dangerous stages for climbing Mount Everest, Lhotse and Nupste. In every climbing season, our icefall doctors – highly skilled, courageous and experienced Sherpas - make this route by fixing ropes and aluminum ladders. Climbers have to pay US$ 600/- per climber in spring climbing season and a total of US$ 25,000/- in autumn season for fixing the route.
