About Us

The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the fragile ecosystem of Nepal’s Everest region. Founded in 1991 through the vision of the late Tengboche Rinpoche, with support from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) and WWF Nepal, SPCC has become a leader in sustainable waste management in the Everest Region. Our work includes waste collection, segregation, recycling, infrastructure development, cleanup campaigns, and managing the Khumbu Icefall Route. As climate change poses increasing threats to the Himalayas, SPCC is expanding its role through Project RISE—an initiative to foster research, innovation, and resilience in high-altitude communities. In collaboration with local communities, government agencies, the National Park, and international partners, SPCC remains committed to environmental stewardship, climate action, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Everest region.
To advance environmental sustainability in the Everest region by leading innovative waste management solutions, promoting climate-resilient practices, and fostering community well-being through education, empowerment, and collaboration.
To foster a resilient Everest region where environmental sustainability, community well-being, and climate action are central to development—ensuring the preservation of the Himalayas for future generations.
