Update on EBC Wastes - Spring Season 2021

[Over 60,000 kgs waste generated by expedition groups]
The Everest Base Camp has been very busy in this spring climbing season with record number of permits issued for climbing Mt. Everest (404 permits), Mt. Lhotse (131 permits) and Mt. Nuptse (38 permits). The SPCC manages all types of wastes generated by expedition groups. All expedition groups are required to submit their waste generated throughout their expedition period to SPCC office at EBC for its management.
In this year’s spring climbing season, SPCC received a total of 60,039 kgs wastes from expedition groups (55,676 kgs from EBC and 4,363 kgs from above the Base Camp).
Burnable garbage - 25,866 kgs
Human waste - 22,803 kgs
Kitchen waste - 6,079 kgs
Non-burnable garbage - 5,291 kgs
Our staff have already transported all wastes from base camp to our waste management facilities for proper management. We would like to thank all expedition groups for your cooperation for keeping the Everest Base Camp clean.
